Invest your cash in gold or no?

It's a first attempt, I had this on my mind a while and it sounded better in my head last night when I came up with it, but long days and countless distractions. Point being, if you give cash for gold and cash becomes worthless, isn't gold worthless then? Who sets the new standards? Be aware.
