Tiger II is the common name for the Panzerkampfwagen
Tiger Ausf.B. often shortened to Tiger B
It is also known under the informal name Königs Tiger.

Often translated as Royal Tiger, or somewhat incorrectly
as King Tiger by the Americans.

The Tiger II was the successor to the Tiger.
But with thicker and sloped armour like on the
Panther. The and would weigh almost 70 tonnes
and was armed with the long barreled 88mm KwK 43
L/71 anti-tank gun.

The Heavy tank project started in 193. Henschel got the design contract at first but was followed in 1939 by Porsche.

The Henschel version used sloped armour sesembling the
layout of the Panther tank.
The Porsche hull design included a rear-mounted turret and a mid-mounted engine.
The suspension was the same as on the Elefant tank destroyer.

Several prototypes were tested and the Henschel design would get the contract in the end and 492 of the
Henschel Tigers were produced.
Two turret designs were used in production vehicles.
The initial design is often misleadingly called the
"porsche"turret due to the belief that it was designed
by Porsche for their prototype.
But the turret was the initial Krupp design for both prototpes.
