Battlefields have been changed to where nothing is seen today.
In the course of human history and this is true also of the battles that took place around Atlanta at the end of the Civil War, things change and now today, I am having a beautiful salad at the site.
The Battle of Peachtree Creek was fought in Georgia on July 20, 1864, as part of the Atlanta Campaign in the American Civil War. It was the first major attack by Lt. Gen. John Bell Hood since taking command of the Confederate Army of Tennessee. The attack was against Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman's Union army, which was perched on the doorstep of Atlanta. The main armies in the conflict were the Union Army of the Cumberland, commanded by Maj. Gen. George Henry Thomas and two corps of the Confederate Army of Tennessee.
The sad part is that there really were thousands of casualties on both sides of this battle. 1,900 Union casualties and 2,500 on the Confederate side. Be thankful for the peace and safety today. Pray though as we fight different battles today and we MUST take this just as serious as any war we have fought.
