An Assault on the Salt

Sept. 1990 - Despite the aerodynamics of a brick, the Banks / GMC LSR Syclone had a max speed of 210 mph. Equipped with a Gale Banks n/a, intercooled, fuel-injected 5.0L V6 engine, it became the World’s Fastest Pickup, 200+mph at the time. The 535 hp 5.0 liter V-6 still needed extra power so we “supercharged” the air into the intake… naturally with no forced induction. We rammed the incoming air through heat exchangers that ran circulated ice water from a tank in the bed of the truck bringing the intake temp down to about 55° adding +30hp. This changed the density of the intake air dramatically and increased power throughout the run. In short we intercooler the intake and supercharged the air. Pretty cool (get it?)
