Cutest animal in the world
The Javan slow loris ( Nycticebus javanicus ) is a Strepsirrhini primate and a species of slow loris native to the western and central parts of Java Island , Indonesia . Although initially described as a separate species, for many years the Javan slow loris was considered a subspecies of the Sunda slow loris ( N. coucang ), until a morphological and genetic review of this taxon was carried out in the 2000s, which resulted in its increased status as a species. full species. The Javan slow loris is closely related to the Sunda slow loris and the Bengal slow loris ( N. bengalensis ). This species has two forms, which are distinguished by hair length and, to a lesser extent, body color.
On his forehead is a conspicuous whitish diamond pattern, formed by a dark stripe that runs over his head and branching towards his eyes and ears. The Javan slow loris weighs between 565 and 687 g and has a head-body length of about 293 mm . Like all slow lorises, the Javan slow loris is arboreal and moves slowly on vines and lianas , rather than jumping from tree to tree. Its habitats include primary and secondary forests , but can also be found in bamboo and mangrove forests , as well as in cocoa plantations . The diet generally consists of fruit, gumtrees, lizards , and eggs . Javan slow lorises sleep on open branches, sometimes in groups, but are usually seen alone or in pairs.
The Javan slow loris population is in sharp decline as it is poached for trade as exotic pets , and sometimes for traditional medicine . The remaining populations are of low density , and habitat loss is a major threat to their sustainability. For this reason the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) designated it a critically endangered species , and also included it in the " 25 Most Endangered Primates in the World " list for 2008-2010. The Javan slow loris is protected by the laws of the Republic of Indonesia and, since June 2007, is registered underAppendix I CITES . Although various protection efforts have been carried out, and their presence has been recorded in several protected areas , poaching of these animals still continues; Wildlife protection laws are rarely enforced at the local level.
