1 Timothy 3:1 - Aspiring to the office

Of all the qualifications listed for elder, bishop, overseer, or pastor of a church, the prerequisite listed in 1 Timothy 3:1 is that they must aspire to the office. How important is this? What can we learn from the Greek?
