Because electricity works well most of the time, it is often taken for granted. It is only during these relative few times when the power goes off that people realize how reliable and dependable SCES is. When power outages do occur, SCES crews work around the clock often in hazardous conditions.

Many power outages on the Electric System lines are caused by falling trees or limbs coming in contact with our power lines due to unusually high winds or by trees growing too near the power lines. Please help us keep power line areas free from these tree hazards. If you discover limbs or trees perilously close to power lines, please notify our office.

In the event of a power outage, please report it by phone to the Power Action Line (PAL) 865-774-6300. We are at your service 24 hours a day.

The Power Action Line (PAL) is an automated system that answers the phone and records customer information about power outages.

Before reporting power failures please go through the following steps:

Check your breakers or fuses to make sure the trouble is not in your service panel. When checking your breaker, be sure to push the switch all the way off and a little beyond the off position before returning it to the on position.

Check with you neighbors to see if their lights are off also.

Please have you SCES account number or meter number available. Overnight rental units should leave the account number or meter number in a conspicuous place.

How to use the Power Action Line

Make sure SCES has correct telephone information (whether it is a land line or cell phone)

In case of an outage call 865-774-6300 (if you call from a cell phone or borrowed phone, be sure to enter the phone number of the affected location).

What the PAL does for SCES

Answers approximately 1200 calls per hour, making it easier to receive information, even after a major storm

PAL will map the outage to our dispatchers as calls come in from various locations to help us determine where the problem is and begin solving it immediately.

PAL will automatically call you back when the power has been restored.

For the Power Action Line to function properly and efficiently the phone numbers for electric accounts must be kept current.
