The story is about an imagined international conspiracy that threatens the lives of the members of a pickleball group. While a mysterious murderer stalks the players, an aging athlete learns how to play the game and falls in love (with a woman and pickleball).
Mixed into the story are the serious issues of coping with the loss of a loved one, finding meaning after retirement, domestic abuse, and how soldiers suffering from PTSD are treated.
