Ain't Nothing To Me But 3 Steps

Today's segue features two rock artists capable of delving into Country without getting twangy. The late, great Johnny Winters starts it off with "Ain't Nothing To Me" which tells of the dangers of flirting with the wrong lady in a bar with a jealous husband hanging around so that naturally fits with Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Gimme Three Steps" where our hero is dodging bullets at the end...

As you listen to that you'll notice this is a different version of what you have ever heard on the radio. This is from a demo album that the band paid for by itself and recorded in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. This was before they signed with MCA and Al Kooper became their producer. Kooper jazzed everything up when he got into the control room and took over. But the essence of the group still shows... ooh, look the Mayor just showed up with doughnuts with peppermint candy sprinkles on them so we have to run...

Segue City will be a recurring short-form programming element of "The Big Kahuna" - one of GET's developmental Internet Radio formats created by Dain Schult. It will also be expanded as a part of that format and finally evolve into a full, long-form programming element on its own. It’s all a part of GET’s radio division – American Internet & Radio (“AIR”).

The feature will be available for integration into other AIR Classic Rock terrestrial stations in the future as well. It revives the art of mixing two songs together in a seamless pattern where it is tough to tell where the first song ended and the second one began. Sometimes the segues may also revolve around thematic ideas like matching or similar song titles. We'll try anything because no two Segue City Specials will ever be exactly the same...

At least that’s the idea… your mileage may vary, check with your dealer; so, you don’t forget order before midnight; operators standing by for your important call; Our talent is on loan from God. We just pray He'll let us finish another segue for tomorrow... if you liked today's segue, our Mayor is known as the Silver Haired Man of Rock n' Roll. At least that’s the idea… your mileage may vary, check with your dealer; so, you don’t forget order before midnight; operators standing by for your important call; offer void where prohibited by law and that normally means it's legal everywhere but in New Mexico... is that gun really loaded or not? Maybe this was all a dream sequence... too many lawyers are involved now so no one will ever know...

This feature is a three-time winner of the Thomas J. Duke Memorial Music Segue and BBQ Cook-Off Award.
