#1 Wilderness Survival Skill

I grew up wading and fishing small creeks in southeastern Pennsylvania. Though I didn't realize it at the time I was just being inoculated with so many different aspects of wilderness survival and just wilderness awareness.

I have spent over 20 years wading, fishing, and exploring wild places. The number one motivation was to catch big fish on spinning or fly fishing. Not only is proficiency at fishing a great way to eat but the immersion in the water teaches you how to do things like navigate water, understand the health of a body of water, you learn about aquatic insects and species.

Of course, creeping around in the water also brings the woods to life and you will see all manner of wildlife. Spending all that time in the woods you will also learn the different types of trees and plants. The list goes on and on.

Start wade fishing. It is an express lane to wilderness survival skills and bushcraft.
