Tying The Blacknose Dace - Dressed Irons

Hook: Mustad 9674 or 79580, #2 - #10
Thread: Danville Flat Waxed Nylon & UTC 70 Denier, Black
Tail: Red Yarn, short
Rib: Silver Oval Tinsel, Small to Medium
Abdomen: Silver Mylar Tinsel, Medium to Large
Wing: Bucktail, Brown over Black over White
Head: Black Tying Thread and Hard as Hull Finish

Art Flick created the Blacknose Dace bucktail fly back in the 30s and it is still a very effective pattern and one everyone should have in their streamer box. A simple design that incorporates all the characteristics of the real Blacknose Dace minnow and definitely catches fish. Originally tied on a short(er) shank hook most are tied on longer shanks these days. Some people even tie these on a 9x Carrie Stevens hook but most are tied on a 4x or 5x long streamer hook. Whatever streamer hook you have should work just tie some up and find out how it does. If nothing else, you'll have fun tying this classic bucktail streamer.
