Scripture and The Doctrine of the Lesser Magistrates teaches us that when the state commands that which God forbids, or forbids that which God commands, men have a duty to obey God, rather than man. This applies to us - WE, the PEOPLE, play a vital role in interposition. When there are no magistrates upholding order, and none are standing for us, the people have a duty to remonstrate (that is, to petition) for evil to be prevented or removed. Our action, or inaction, will make us accountable towards God.
