The 15 cm schwere Feldhaubitze 18 or sFH 18 was the basic German division-level
heavy howitzer of 149mm during WWII.

Development on the sFH 18 began in 1926 to replace the earlier, WWI era 15 cm sFH 13,
The carriage was a relatively standard split-trail design with box legs.
Spades were carried on the sides of the legs that could be mounted onto the ends for added stability.

Production of the sFH would start in 1933 and would see it's first action in the
Second Sino-Japanese War with the CNRA and later with the Germany army in the start
of WWII.

This sFH18 was probably damaged in the Battle of the Bulge and
you can still see many battle scars.
The crew sabotaged the howitzer by firing the gun in a compressed state.

After the war, it was placed here in Cherain to replace a WW1 artillery gun
after the gun was taken because the Germans scrapped the monument for metal in 1940.
