Inequitable Grief | Public Occurrences, Ep. 20

This past week, a grieving mother of a young man killed in Afghanistan was deleted and deplatformed from Facebook and Instagram for expressing her displeasure with President Joe Biden and his careless withdrawal from Afghanistan.

This should bring to mind the stories of grieving parents and spouses who lost their loved ones in service in 2017 who in turn expressed displeasure in President Trump. These stories were shared in every major media outlet throughout the United States, and in particular, on social media.

The unequal treatment of these two similar situations should be a clear signal that the social media giants, who courted our patronage with promises of “free speech” and “privacy” are our adversaries.
