I have often wanted to try but have been put off by the cost, which most being priced well over £100, too much to pay for something I am not sure I will need.

Then the Leeventi Teleprompter 4.0 came along and for the price it seemed worth taking a chance on and I am glad I did.

For just £45 here you get a full-sized teleprompter complete with Bluetooth remote control, you will not get better for twice the price, although there are one or two concessions made to achieve that budget price. Everything you need is here in the pack even including a spare reflective screen. The whole thing comes packaged in an oversized reinforced envelope and contains all you need to get shooting with your phone, camcorder or DSLR.

Assembly is far easier than it may seem at first and Leeventi have posted an excellent assembly guide on YouTube. In fact, it is not really needed as I found it easy enough to put the thing together. No glue or permanent fitting is involved so it is easy enough to start over if necessary. Build quality is lightweight and when assembled it feels quite delicate. I think that it may be best to keep the teleprompter permanently assembled and to find a safe spot to store it when not needed.

Your recording device sits on the rear aluminium sheet facing forward through the reflective screen with your tablet or other device positioned on the lower screen in front of it. The tablet scrolls your reversed script which reflects onto the screen so you can read it correctly but is invisible to the camera behind it. You can control the speed and orientation of the script with the supplied Bluetooth remote control. A smartphone or standard camcorder mounts l on the rear plate using the precut holes but a large DSLR or professional camcorder may need a separate tripod. A tripod screw adapter is included for DSLR and other cameras as well as a standard smartphone clamp. You will need to keep your camera lens as close as possible to the screen or zoom in slightly to avoid the edges of the frame getting in the shot.

There are a few minor issues to contend with. Build quality is lightweight and a bit Heath Robinson, the mounting clips are a bit small and fiddly, but it all works and works well when fully assembled. I may decide to replace the dark cloth with some heavy-duty card cut to size for long term use and may look for some way of reinforcing the plastic frame.

The included free app is fine and works well but is web based and requires an internet connection to work although I think Leeventi do make a downloadable version available for a small subscription. Of course, there are plenty of other apps available online that work just as well.

When fully assembled and tuned to your personal recording and presentation needs this simple device works just as well as rivals costing several times the price.

If you are considering buying a teleprompter but don't wish to pay too much then the Leeventi Teleprompter 4.0 could be just what you need.
