Tying the Mallard & Claret - Dressed Irons

Thread: Uni-Thread 8/0, Black
Tail: Golden Pheasant Tippet
Rib: Oval Tinsel, Gold
Body: Real-Seal, Claret
Throat: Schlappen, Black
Wing: Bronze Mallard

This weeks fly is another request from a long time follower of Dressed Irons. The Mallard & Claret is another old wet fly that was/is very popular and just as effective today. Originally created in the 1850, the Mallard & Claret can imitate many different types of food trout love. The original pattern called for seal fur for the body. I used Real-Seal in this video which is a product by Feather-Craft (https://www.feather-craft.com/feather-craft-real-seal). The Real-Seal works well but you will need to either moisten your fingers or apply wax to your fingers when dubbing it as it tends to slide between the finger without. - Enjoy
