An experienced Permaculture designer teacher, forest garden specialist, yoga teacher, homeopath and reggae DJ. Rakesh has been designing and teaching permaculture to individuals and communities since 2009, and has taught over 500 permaculture, forest gardening, eco village design and related courses. His design portfolio ranges from large scale forest gardens in eco villages through to many urban community food growing gardens, private farms and back gardens as well as designing collaborative businesses, urban water retention systems and even computer software and documentation systems.

Rakesh is also engaged in intentional community building, using sociocracy and other tools and processes to create positive social bonds within various individual projects and communities. He is also passionate about teaching how to be self-reliant and self-providing in a sustainable way, crafting and creating whatever you need instead of depending. For instance building your own low impact house, capturing and storing energy; fuel efficient heating systems (rocket heaters and stoves); water capture, purification and recycling systems.

What permaculture has to offer to a group of people leaving the city to create a thriving off-grid community. Rakesh will offer some creative and practical tools on living in on-the-land, in terms of food growing and storage, low impact housing, source of fuel, heating, water capture and purification. Furthermore he will touch briefly on fermentation and probiotics as a form of food preservation and personal health.
