In doing research this past winter on soft hackle flies I ran across Charlie Craven's soft hackle fly. Although most of the soft hackles I have done over the past few months are more traditional (classic) patterns (meaning they have been around a while) I decided to do the Craven's Soft Hackle (purple version) because I found it interesting. Also, a fly does not have to be around for 80 years to prove that it works. It is a fun fly to tie and a great pattern to work on basic fly tying skills. Plus, you can change up the colors some and in no time have a box full of Craven Soft Hackle flies. - Enjoy
