Russia-Ukraine standoff: US sending thousands more troops to Europe as tensions escalate

The United States is moving thousands more troops to Eastern Europe, as Russia refuses to back down over its military buildup along Ukraine's border.

The U.S. will redeploy 1,000 troops currently stationed in Germany to Romania. Another 2,000 reinforcements will be dispatched from the U.S., most to Poland and some to Germany – none will be placed directly in Ukraine.
