The Wisdom, Wit, and Wonder, of Terence McKenna

One of the greatest minds in human history, Terence McKenna is the father of the modern psychedelic renaissance. What began as a naïve movement of disenchanted youth in the 1960''s was reignited in the early 1990's with the sudden and totally unexpected explosion of the popularity of the Grateful Dead, and the ascension of Terence McKenna as a popular author and speaker. Terence was the new Dr. Timothy Leary, and the Grateful Dead and their audience ensured that every town in the United States was saturated with psychedelics.
Terence brought an unrivaled capacity for articulating impossible ideas; his vocabulary, wit, humor, insight, and unrestrained penchant for telling the truth pierced to the heart of the global counter-culture. His fame has only grown, in step with the psychedelic tide that is sweeping the shores of the Collective Mind as we speak.
Terence's piercing intelligence and astonishing ability to articulate the unfathomable contributed immensely to the rehabilitation of the perception of psychedelics. The Official Narrative that psychedelics made you stupid, spaced out, and even insane had met a formidable foe in the personage of Terence McKenna.
In this video I offer a condensation of Terence's message, set to music and psychedelic visuals by several different artists. The segment where Terence speaks in tongues is one of the best documented instances of someone "bringing something back," from the unimaginable realm of the Tryptamine Denizens.
On a personal note, I had one interaction with Terence that is worth sharing. He has the dubious distinction of being the first person that I ever exchanged e-mails with, probably in about 1998. He was hosting a retreat at the ruins at Palenque, in Mexico, and I caught wind of it and desperately wanted to attend. My friend suggested that I e-mail him, but I had never heard of "e-mail,' and respnded simply, "Wtf is e-mail?" So, my friend brought me to his computer and gave me my instructions. I sent Terence what I'm sure was an embarrassingly gushy, babbling, teenage boy in awe, sort of communique.
To my absolute astonishment, Terence replied. I had told him that I wanted to attend his retreat, but I was only a teenager and didnt have 2500 1998 dollars. Terence said that if I could just get there, I would not have to pay the 2500 dollar admission. Of course, I did not go, having been swallowed up by the dark underbelly of Washington, DC, shortly after this exchange. I have regretted this ever since. But, it is a great example of the kind of person Terence was, and suggests that he walked in accordance with his talk. I had a blast putting this together, and I sincerely hope everyone enjoys it. Cheers!
