Steelhead fishing at 6th street dam on The Grand River in Michigan is the stuff of steelhead fishing legends. 6th street dam is where I fought my first steelhead and The grand river is where I later honed my steelhead fishing skills! I don't often make it out to grand rapids to go steelhead fishing at 6th street dam on the grand river mostly due to the fact that I prefer to avoid the crowds when fishing. The 6th street dam on the Grand River is a great place to find good amounts of fresh chrome steelhead and Grand Rapids steelhead fishing is among the most famous steelhead fishing locations in Michigan. When a beginner Michigan steelhead fisherman starts asking about where to go the first and forefront suggestions are almost always "If you want good steelhead fishing go to 6th Street Dam in Grand Rapids or Tippy Dam on The Manistee River or The Peir Marquette River and some other common choice rivers. I believe if it weren't for Sixth Street Dam Grand River steelhead fishing would fly under the radar but 6th Street Dam in Grand Rapids holds a lot of steelhead and salmon as well as walleye, catfish and more. The truth be told if you know what you are doing steelhead fishing on The Grand River is great from the lake all the way up to Lansing Michigan where the locals enjoy steelhead fishing Moors Dam near Reo Town in Lansing Michigan. At the time this steelhead fishing video was made the conditions in the northern rivers were not ideal so we took advantage of the opportunity to catch some 6th street steelhead so we Hit up our buddy Dustin a steelhead fishing guide who works under the name Swift Waters Guide Service. Dustin Is into steelhead fishing for sure and on this day we used a lot of his custom made beads along with some Slay N Steel beads and Great Lakes beads. I used to not be a believer in steelhead bead fishing but Dustin along with a few other guides as well as some fishing buddies have made me a believer in bead fishing for steelhead. Dustin is Prostaff with Nova Tackle Company and we have used his Nova Chrome Rods and custom wrapped Rainshadow Blanks before and they are a joy to fish. Jason liked them so much he bought one himself. I love steelhead fishing with a baitcaster. Baitcaster float fishing for steelhead is the way to go in my opinion. Baitcaster float fishing is easy and effecient. I hope to get myself a baitcaster setup for steelhead fishing soon! It is easier to get steelhead bobber downs with a baitcaster or a centerpin fishing reel because it is easier to get a good drift and a good hook set. The baitcaster is easier to fight steelhead on and reels in more much faster and thats why I think baitcaster float fishing is supreme. Float fishing for steelhead is supreme in most situations. I am a big fan of throwing spinners and crank baits float fishing for steelhead is hard to deny. In short I would say of all the steelhead rigs for river fishing nothing beats float fishing with a baitcaster with steelhead fishing beads.Show more

I have been Michigan steelhead fishing for several years now and every year I am becoming a better steelhead fisherman. Going on steelhead fishing trips with Dustin, Nick and Joe has taught me so much about steelhead fishing Michigan and I highly recomend going out with a good steelhead fishing guide if you are trying to learn how to fish for steelhead. Steelhead fishing michigan 2021has been epic so far. The spring run treated me well and before this trip I was 0 for 7 on steelhead from summer to early fall. Thanks to this 6th street dam steelhead fishing adventure I finaly landed my first 2 steelhead of the fall 2021 steelhead fishing season!
