Clarinetist Morrie Sherry has dynamically combined a performing and teaching career in the New York metropolitan area. She was called "an artist of superb ability and flawless musicianship" by The Arlington Journal. She is the founder and director of the NoMa NYC Ensemble. She has performed extensively in chamber ensembles, including the St Cecilia Chamber Ensemble and the Metropolitan Soloists in New York City, the Manchester Music Festival in Manchester, Vermont. Currently, she performs with the Lakeview Chamber Players and will perform in their 2022 summer chamber music series in Center Sandwich, New Hampshire, and Rangeley, Maine.
An avid chamber musician, she performed as a festival artist at the Manchester Music Festival (VT) for twenty-four years performing in numerous solo, chamber music, and orchestral concerts, including the premiere and recording of David Amram's "Starry Night" for solo clarinet and string orchestra. Her solo orchestral engagements include performances with the Baltimore Symphony, the Manchester Festival Orchestra, and the International Jewish Arts Festival Orchestra.
In recital, she has performed at major venues including Weill Recital Hall, St. Paul's Festival of the Arts, Arts at Trinity and has performed at the Southern Vermont Art Center, Virginia's Lyceum Theater, the Trinity Church Noonday Concert Series, the Klavierhaus, the Copland House and Merkin Concert Hall. With the NoMa NYC Ensemble, she presented concerts for clarinet and strings, including "Cinema Sounds on Stage," presenting Souvenirs de Voyage, the clarinet music of the iconic film composer Bernard Herrmann at the Bruno Walter Auditorium and the Queens public library.
As an orchestral player, Morrie Sherry has performed with the Brooklyn Philharmonic, New York Grand Opera, Queens Philharmonic, and Opera Northeast tours.
Active as an educator for over twenty-five years, her passion has been to help students of all ages connect with music and realize their full potential to find their own voices as clarinetists. Since 1990, she has taught clarinet and coached chamber music at the Kaufman Center in New York City. She has coached for the InterSchool Orchestras of New York and maintains a private studio.
She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Philadelphia College of Performing Arts and a Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School. She studied with Ben Armato, Leon Russianoff, Ignatius Gennusa, Donald Montanaro, and David Glazer and won competitions from the Baltimore Symphony, ClariNetwork International, the Virginia Symphony, and Artists International.
