The Music Man. Formed in Melbourne in 1979, Men at Work were the "highest-paid unsigned band" in Australia before landing their first record deal in 1981, per All Music. In 1982 they made such huge waves in America that the New York Times wondered if they would usher in a period of Aussie dominance that echoed the Beatles' British Invasion.
