A Pentagon spokesman warned Sunday that Russia could invade Ukraine "at any time" and that there were "several ways" to do so at the disposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"Putin has a lot of options at his disposal if he wants to invade Ukraine further, and he can make some of those choices right away," Pentagon spokesman John Kirby told Fox News Sunday.

Senior Defense Ministry officials share a bleak outlook for the immediate future, he added, pointing to Russian troops gathered along the Ukraine-Russia border and the number of troops in Belarus, which is also adjacent to Ukraine.

He also mentioned Russian ships in the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

"It does not need to conflict. "We still believe there is room and room for diplomacy, and we would like to see this be the solution here," Kirby said.
