Why Did Denis Villeneuve Change His OPINION On Day And Date Releases For DUNE?

On September 12, 2021, Denis Villeneuve, director of 2021's Dune came out in an interview with Deadline supporting Warner Bros. decision to release Dune simultaneously in Theaters and on HBO Max on October 22, 2021. Why the sudden change of heart? Back in August of 2021, Denis didn't even want to send out Digital Screeners to the press so that they have to see it in theaters. Was it due to the pandemic pushing the release date out further and further? Was it to weaponize fans to greenlight a sequel? Or was Dune always destined to be a Box Office Bomb?
