Sugarcane at Yunlin County 🇹🇼 (2021-04) {aerial}

Impressions from the sugar industry at Yunlin County, Taiwan. Footage covers the sugarcane crop crowing on farmland, irrigation, mechanical harvesting, loading the train cars, transportation with sugar railway and arrival at Huwei Sugar Factory. Taiwan Sugar Railways 臺灣糖業鐵路 use 762 mm narrow gauge track. The Sugar Railways were initially constructed by Meiji Sugar Co., Ltd. during the Japanese rule in the early 20th century and continued to operate well into the 1990s under the management of the Taiwan Sugar Corporation. Magongcuo line at Huwei Sugar Factory was opened in 1913. It still has industrial operation on about 16 km of track (with Diesel locomotives), being the only remaining sugarcane carrying sugar train of Taiwan as per 2021 harvesting season. Part of the railway track at the factory's switching yard and the connection line to Dounan TRA station is/was of dual gauge (762 mm & 1067 mm). Locomotive: DIEMA B, manufactured by Diepholzer Maschinenfabrik Fritz Schöttler GmbH, Germany, 1977, powered by Daimler-Benz OV403V diesel engine, 247hp, LxWxH: 5540x2230x2950mm, net weight: 16.5t, max. speed: 40km/h.
