Metal Forging and Wood Turning | High Caliber Maker's Camp | 2021/37

My son and I had a chance to travel to Virginia and attend Austin's High Caliber Maker's Camp. It was a blast!!!!

As a wood working, I was definitely outside my element, and was relearning skills I had not used since middle school shop classes over 40 years ago!

The weekend started off with basic metal working, learning how to use the forge safely, and learning how to taper and bend. Saturday was all about the the meat cleavers, forging and shaping out the blades, turning the wood handles on the lathe, then grinding and sharpening, tempering, and setting the handles in a blaze of fire and smoke!

Sunday was all about using our newly acquired skills to forge dinner bell triangles and leather working, by making belts.

The weekend was amazing, and meeting all of my Zoom friends was the best part of all!
