Minnehaha Park
This is also considered one of the most haunted places in Spokane and on the news several times.
The stone building located in the heart of the park was the original summer home of a lawyer named Edgar Webster. He had discovered mineral springs there in the 19th century and opened up a spa. He named it “Minnehaha “ which is the Sioux word for “waterfall” or “laughing water”.
The spa was also considered to be a resort with dance halls, tennis courts, etc. The mineral waters were also excellent for making beer. It was later transformed into the Union Brewing and Malting Company by John G. F. Heiber.
The building not only has been a spa, brewery but even a bordello and was on the edge of the city and considered a perfect location for Spokane’s more colorful activities and had a wild reputation. It was also a site of a major movie production studios between 1918 and 1924 before the city of Spokane developed it as a park.
There are a lot of urban legends about the ghosts in the park and the ghosts are very well documented. They have been seen there for 100 years.
Some say the building used to be an orphanage and all the unwanted children were taken out back and murdered and some left to starve to death. Others believe there was a fire in the building and three children were killed. There was a fire but there is no records to verify that there ever was an orphanage or children died in the fire.
Reguardless, children ghosts haunt Minnehaha. There are reports that often late at night you’ll still hear tiny laughs and playing and running along the walks even if you’re the only one in the park. Footsteps and giggling are also heard throughout the park. Their presence in the park remains a mystery which has also earned the name “Mini HaHa”. In the original resort it was mentioned they had swings and croquet set up for the children. Reports of hauntings are still occurring to this day and have been over a hundred years.
