DESCRIPTION:

According to the Population Reference Bureau, the Total Fertility Rate (TFR) is defined as, "the average number of children a women would have assuming that current age-specific birth rates remain constant throughout her childbearing years." Or simply put, in order for a culture to maintain itself for more than twenty-five (25) years a fertility rate of 2.11 children per family is required. In this video Lori Hoye (voice over) reveals the impact of the "Total Fertility Rate (TFR)."

According to the Vital Statistics Rapid Release (Report No. 012, May 2021), entitled: Births: Provisional Data for 2020 (https://bit.ly/3HfuDL8).

The total fertility rate (TFR) for the United States in 2020 was 1,637.5 births per 1,000 women, down 4% from the rate in 2019 (1,706.0). This is another record low for the nation.

IMPORTANT: The rate has generally been below replacement since 1971 and has consistently been below replacement since 2007.
