The love of God for a helmet the hope. Remember in my foundational class I define faith hope and love for you? And one of the sentences, if I remember correctly, is usually in the essence of:
Anything that you can appropriate immediately you can receive by faith. Hope simply anticipates. The love of God activates both faith and hope.
[1 Thes 5:9] For God [God] hath not appointed us to wrath [God has not appointed us to wrath], but [appointed us] to obtain salvation [and this is the same context of the return of Christ. Obtained salvation] by our Lord Jesus Christ,
Who died for us [verse 10] that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
Wherefore [verse 11. Wherefore - because of all of this] comfort yourselves together and edify one another even as also ye do.
Isn't that wonderful?
Verse 12 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
[13] And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.
[14] Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
[15] See that [no one] render evil for evil unto any man [in 1964]; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all {men}.
Rejoice [verse 16 rejoice] evermore.
[17] Pray without [what?] ceasing.
And this you can't do unless you operate manifestations of the spirit. Pray without ceasing.
[18] In everything [in 1964] give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
[19] Quench not the spirit.
Now how in the world can you quench the spirit? By not doing what he's just said here. By living less than what we have just read. We are quenching what? The spirit.
[20] Despise not prophesying.
[21] Prove all things; hold fast unto that which is good.
[22] Abstain from all appearance of evil.
Verse 23 of benediction.
[23] And the very God of peace sanctify you [completely] wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ
Verse 24 Faithful is he that calleth you who also will [what?] do it.
That's the end of that particular chapter with the exception of the final salutation.
Faithful is he that calleth you who also will what? Well did he call you? If he called you it's Christ in you. Is he faithful to carry it out? Very definitely. Is that a wonderful thing? He's faithful. I, I'm the one that has been unfaithful. I'm the one that has shortcomings, but not god. god is faithful. And what god has promised he is able yes but not only able he's also what willing, willing to perform, willing to perform. And here he tells us we're to exhort the brethren. We are to warn them. It tells us that we're not to render evil for evil. It tells us that we're to rejoice. It tells us that we're to give thanks. It tells us that we are not to despise prophesying. It tells us that we are to prove all things, not just swallow everything every Tom, Dick and Harry says. And we're to hold fast unto that which is good, that which is genuine, that which is pure, that which is right we are to hold on too. The rest of the stuff we flip, we let it go. And we're to abstain from the appearance of evil.
Everybody puts this into the category of the physical. In other words, don't eat baloney. Abstain from the appearance of evil. I believe that may enter into this but I think in context if you leave it set. You'll get a much bigger vision. What's the appearance of evil? What, what have we been reading about? Look at what we've all read about, all these wonderful things. Exhort the brothers. Do not render evil for evil. Rejoice. Give thanks. Quench not the spirit. Despise not prophesying. Prove all things. Hold fast to that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. The appearance of evil is if you do not do these things then you're evil, that's the appearance. That's what the Word says. Its set in context.
