Hosea 7:1–8:14 Psalm 139:7–12 Proverbs 29:20 2 John 1–13
- Hosea 7 - Good sees Israel's wickedness now their own deeds have surrounded them,
- Hosea 8 - God is a covenant God, he works through promises and always keeps his promises
- The sow the wind and reap, the whirlwind, in other words their efforts are pointless and come back as a judgment,
- Ultimately God's judgment is against idolatry and their palaces will be burned up, now we know in an ultimate sense this world will pass away with fire.
- Psalm 139-7-12
- Where can I go from your Spirit?
- 12 Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You.
- This verse should be terror to all people outside of Christ, God sees all things it is a comfort to believers he has seen every sin and paid for them on the cross,
- Proverbs 29:20 - 20 Do you see a man hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.
- Great reminder to use our words carefully and speak slowly, remember James warning Bridle the tongue, and then remember Jesus did this perfectly in your place🙂
- 2 John 1-13
- John is always concerned with truth and this chapter is no different, in fact all believers are concerned with truth, and have you've heard before truth is always based on the immutability and character of the Triune God, Jesus claimed to be truth personified not just that he always tells the truth as some assume which of course he does, but that he was the very source of truth. What is right and correct, Truth carries with it a moral component that many overlook.
- John's primary concern again is one of loving one another as Christians, and refuting errors of deceivers, denying the bodily substance of Christ.
- We then get some instruction as to distancing ourselves from false teachers and not having them in our homes, practically speaking this could carry over to: books, songs, t.v. shows, and certainly applies to evangelism and who is a member or teacher in your Church.
- MaCarthur notes with this greeting John is emphasizing his age and authority (The Elder but also reminds us that John was an eyewitness of Jesus life ministry and resurrection). Never leave Jesus in the tomb,
- Macarthur notes the importance of the body/human nature of Christ, this is why it is essential to talk about the covenant of works and how Adam failed, Christ succeeded, he fulfilled the law in our place, this is known as his active obedience, we see this in Jesus time with the self righteous Pharisees and we see it today, with the whole of humanity but specifically with Pelagianism (remember arminian theology is semi-pelagian and not a position that I would recommend)
- What Christians do in their physical life is directly connected with what they do in their spiritual life.
- Excellent point,
