Our new washing machine likes to move about a bit, more than a bit in fact, perhaps due to the maximum spin speed of 1600 rpm. We had to find a solution as not only was it noisy the violent vibration might also damage the machine. We considered rubber pads and anti-shake feet but these can be tricky to fit and often do not work too well. After some research, I found this simple device available online and with consistently good reviews too.
The £18.50 Amazon price bought a 40 x 40 cm inflatable pad with a preconnected but removable bulb type hand pump. A single information sheet was included. The build quality seems fine for what it is. The balloon style pad is made from heavy-duty vinyl with good seams and a robust valve. The bulb pump is also well made but is rather small for the size of the bag and takes a good ten minutes or so of pumping to get it inflated enough for use.
Using it is simple enough. Place the deflated pad on top of the washing machine but below the work surface and pump it up enough to form a good seal. I found it needs to be inflated enough to allow some give in the bag when you press your finger into it. Take care not to overinflate to prevent the bag from lifting the work surface away from its mounting. We got it the right first time but it may be worth testing it first and then inflating more to get the right level. If there are any nails or sharp edges on the gap between the machine and the worksurface then it may be a good idea to protect the pad with an old towel or some other thick padding when positioning.
The bulb can be removed after inflating if you are short of space but we were able to push it out of sight along the side of the washing machine. If you need to deflate the pad, just hold the black button on the pump and gently press on the pad to release the air.
So far, so good and after about two weeks of use, the pad shows no signs of going flat. That said, many users say that from time to time an inflation top-up may be needed. I would like to have filmed a 'Before' segment but after the first test, the powers that be here refused to let me remove the pad in case it would not work as well next time!
Although we are very happy with this inflatable pad, I have now seen multiple rivals available for around the same price or more which may or may not be just as good. You make your own choice but I can only say this one works a treat!
