Even though the water is cold the big females will move shallow to feed up before the spawn especially if the water is dirty. Don't let water temperature be a crutch in your fishing just use it as a general guide to get an idea of where to start looking for fish. Here in Alabama usually in late January to early February if you have dirty water and a nice sunny day you can catch some big fish shallower than you would expect. This was the case at Wilson lake today.
