I'd like for you to take your bibles tonight and turn to Luke chapter 15. Luke chapter 15.

In this great chapter; or in the next two chapters; we have five of the great parables in the Word of God. Very few people have ever, ever understood these parables in their inner depths. I don't know if I really understand them, but at least I'll open my heart to you tonight and share with you the things that I believe the Word of God literally teaches in these tremendous parables. Before I do this parable, or the particular parable of the five that I'd like to do with you tonight, I must bring you along in the understanding of parables.

Back in November 1966 there was published in The Way Magazine the basic truths of what I'm going to share with you tonight.

In the July-September issue of 1970 Reverend Walter Cummins has a tremendous article on parables. And in the current edition of Are The Dead Alive Now, which was just recently published, on page 73 of that particular publication is the work on parables. But the most extensive work that we've ever done was in the summer school when I taught figures of speech and this was the syllabus that we used a number of summers ago in that class. And in order to understand the greatness of what a parable is I'm just going to take this syllabus which is not what is which is nothing more than a syllabus just giving you the great truths and I'm going to read these things in order to conserve time because I want to get to Luke 15. but in order to understand a parable you must understand what a simile is what a metaphor is what the word hypocrite stasis means and the word synchresis these are all figures of speech these must be understood because people get parables all confused because a parable is a figure of speech.

Now first of all a simile. And if you're keeping notes it wouldn't hurt you. And one of the reasons you have to teach this again is because we have new people in the ministry all the time; week after week I see new people here. All over the country there are people that are new, and even though I taught it let's say a year ago or two years ago there are people who've never heard it. And therefore you have to keep teaching people so they get the understanding of God's Word.
