Crytek has officially confirmed that the fourth Crysis game is in development.

The news was announced in a blog by CEO Avni Yerli, who stated: “It’s something you have been asking us for a long time, so it’s now finally time to confirm – yes, the next Crysis game is happening.”

Yerli explained that the game was still “in the early stage of development” and as such won’t be ready for some time, but noted: “We wanted to bring you the news at this time as we are so hyped for the future, and to let you know that we will be listening to our community.

“Crytek has a proud history of working with our community to develop the games you want to play,” he added.

“Crysis is incredibly important to so many people – it’s beloved by gamers everywhere, and some of those working in the industry today are doing so because of the original game – so we want to make sure the next instalment in the franchise lives up to all of your expectations.

“As development progresses we will release more details when we can. But in the meantime, know that our dedicated and talented team is working hard to bring you a truly next-gen shooter.”

The first image of Crysis 4 was seemingly posted earlier than intended by the official Crytek social media account in China.

The message appeared earlier today on Crytek’s official account on Chinese site BiliBili, accompanied by an image of a helmet lying on the ground.

The accompanying message also confirmed that the image is from Crysis 4, saying: “Project Crysis 4 confirmed, opening up a new nano battlefield.”

Crytek released the Crysis Remastered Trilogy in October 2021, which bundled new remasters of Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 with the existing remaster of the first game.

The first Crysis Remastered featured new lighting, updated assets, ray traced reflections and 8K textures.

A next-gen patch later introduced performance, quality and full ray tracing modes for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 (PC supported full ray tracing at release).
