Cumberland City Councillor Steve Christou says it is "weak, un-Australian" and "treacherous" for councils to cancel Australia Day celebrations while using COVID as an excuse.
"There's no excuse, two years living ... with COVID at 95 per cent vaccination rates, and pushing out a third booster, why on earth anyone would be cancelling Australia Day, let alone any event," Mr Christou told Sky News host Rita Panahi.
"Let the rest of us get on with our lives and live life because quite frankly enough is enough."
