Vesuvius is a Category 2 UCI rated climb. It is a classic Appalachian climb. It is steep, low traffic, and forested. Steepest at the bottom, last km flattens out. It finishes at the Blue Ridge Parkway near Montebello.

The Vesuvius is situated in Virginia. This climb belongs to the Appalachian Mountains. The Vesuvius is ranked number 21 of the Appalachian Mountains.

Starting from Vesuvius, Virginia, the Vesuvius ascent is 5.6 km long. Over this distance, you climb 473 meters (1,551 feet). The average percentage thus is 8.4 %. The maximum slope is 24. The height at the top is 908 meters (2,979 feet).

I made this climb on Day 78 of my 81 Day Trans America Bicycle Tour last July 2019. Correction: There was 13 total breaks not 12.

The purpose of this video is not really for entertainment purposes but for briefing/preparing future riders that plan to make this trip.
There was very little editing and all footage is in real time. The video and the climb is nearly one hour long.
