Catastrophic Failure of Diplomacy

The threat of a Russian invasion into Ukraine continues to escalate. Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent more than 100,000 troops and weaponry to prepare for an invasion. Now, in reactionary mode, President Biden is considering deploying United States troops to NATO allies in Eastern Europe. This comes at a time when Russia is conducting live military drills off the coast of Ireland. Overall, this was a failure of diplomacy from the Biden Administration, and it has put us in a dangerous situation regarding national security.
ACLJ Director of Policy Harry Hutchison pointed out what this means for Ireland:
"It threatens Ireland’s economy and indirectly it threatens the European community. And this is precisely as Putin designed it. And in fact, Putin has accepted President Biden’s audacious invitation to engage in a minor incursion in Ukraine. So, in other words, this is President Biden’s translation of a Neville Chamberlain acceptance of peace in our time."
ACLJ Senior Advisor for National Security and Foreign Policy and former Acting Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell explained how the Biden Administration got to this point:
"Look, the Biden Administration in the last year has really taken stable regions and really created instability and chaos. . . . The fact that the Germans who got a pipeline from Russia, and who probably are part of the problem here, because they have been encouraging Russia and been too close with Russia over the last several years and are now undermining NATO allies . . . and telling them that they cannot send military hardware into Ukraine. Think about that. . . . This is a NATO ally who doesn’t pay their own NATO obligations – Germany. Now undercutting the NATO concern that Russia is on the march through Europe, a possible land war in Europe. And a NATO member – the largest economy in Europe is undercutting NATO in multiple ways. They are not paying their obligations. Now, they are telling other countries, don’t arm Ukraine as Russia is on their border. I don’t think it is too much to say that we need to reevaluate whether or not the German actions are good for NATO and whether or not we need to call them out for it."
Ric added what a danger point we are at right now:
"The danger point is that powers like China and Russia are smelling weakness and are going to move in on other areas. And that our friends and allies are going to have to face the music of tilting towards Russia or China and away from the United States. This is going to be economically disastrous as well as national security chaos and concerns."
Why would we put our men and women serving our country in harm’s way again? Why would we deploy up to 50,000 American troops along the Ukrainian border, after we watched the botched Afghanistan withdrawal that took the lives of 13 U.S. servicemen?
