Mr McGowan on Thursday had announced Western Australia’s hard border will remain in place past February 5 due to the Omicron variant, with no date given for when the state will open up to the rest of Australia.

“Last night, in the shadows of the day, 7:30pm would you mind, Mark McGowan broke the hearts of so many families, who were so excited to be able to reunite, and reconnect with Australia,” Mr Smith said.

“The country’s most risk-averse premier said there would be no reopening on February 5, his state would remain shut tight.”

“Nothing has changed since he announced his reopening plan on December 18.

“He’s just chickened out, and everyone else suffers, again.”
