Stephen Graham Jones Talks Slasher Movies (HORROR AUTHOR and SLASHER FAN)

Stephen Graham Jones, Native American horror author, talks about his intense love of slasher movies including the “Scream” franchise and growing up in the 70s and 80s watching horror greats like “Friday the 13th,” “Halloween,” and “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” He talks about his favorite final girl, and how his love of slasher movies led to his new book “My Heart is a Chainsaw” featuring a teenaged native girl obsessed with horror movies, but thinks herself unworthy to be a final girl herself. This leads to a discussion of what makes someone a final girl (young, white, pretty, blonde, popular?) Traditionally that’s been the case, but maybe that needs to change. Jones is funny too, but in a different way than my previous video featuring horror author Grady Hendrix. This is a more relaxed presentation, is more intimate, and the audience was able to ask questions. This was filmed on October 22 in Springfield, Missouri. Other books by Stephen Graham Jones include “The Only Good Indians” (think, Bambie gets revenge), Mongrels (about werewolves), hundreds of short stories and about 50 other novels.

This channel is a history channel but I share celebrity panels or other public academic/entertaining presentations I attend. If either of those things interest you please check out my other videos and consider subscribing. Watch videos to the end, share, make comments and all that other YouTube stuff we have to ask you to do to keep the lights on. Enjoy, and I’m glad you stopped by!
