Your Neighborhood with Kimo Quance (Episode 15: Bay Park)

Located on the most north western tip of the beautiful Mission Bay we have the newly developed “Bay Park.” The unique location of this newer area gives you a view of Mission Bay and its 4000 plus acre man made bay. Watch some of the city’s best sunsets during the evenings overlooking the Pacific Ocean. South east you can see some of the best architecture and history with the unique structures of University of San Diego, and even bits of downtown the further down south you look. The area has recently been redesigned and has undergone recent construction of the brand new blue line extension of the San Diego trolley, where you can now take the cart all the way to neighboring UCSD and the UTC shopping center in La Jolla.
Speaking of traveling, Morena Blvd. takes you up and down Bay Park’s entirety along the 5. To find some great eats, cruise down to restaurant row, check out tons of local businesses, and even take a morning or nightly stroll to go out and smell the salty air to see what else is in store. Bay Park is set in one of the best locations of San Diego because with it kind of being on the outskirts of a heavy tourist area, you can stay nearby to stay and keep that locally feel, venture out to see some sights of your own, or just hop on the free way to head to other neighboring cities to get some of the errands done.
Because of the different experiences you can gain while venturing both near and far from Bay Park, it was recently named, “San Diego’s #1 Most Liveable Neighborhood.”
MISSION BAY
So unlike any other neighborhood with the exception of North County, Bay Park is unique in the fact that it has both the bay and beach minutes away. Mission Bay is considered the largest human made aquatic park in the country after a recommendation by the Chamber of Commerce committee in 1944. Since then it has become home to all sorts of watercraft and relatable activity. Some include boating, wakeboarding, kiteboarding, fishing, sailing, rowing, and so much more. Mission bay is home to the Mission Bay Yacht Club, Zlac Rowing Club, Mission Bay Aquatic Center just to name a few spots to enjoy some of the best recreational activities on the water.
De Anza Cove is the easternmost portion of the bay and the closest to Bay Park. This section of the bay also includes Fiesta Island and Campland on the Bay. Fiesta Island is a great spot to literally drive up and spend the day on the sand, ride horses, let the dogs play, or to have everyone over for a bonfire. Campland on the bay takes glamping to the next level, where you can watch the annual boat races and collegiate rowing events. From Bay Park you can ride down and around the entirety of the bay as well. You can also enjoy walks around the water, and working out outside as well.
Drive through North PB to enjoy any of the beaches ranging from South Mission to Bird Rock. Each spot has its own unique experience and view so make sure to check them all out.
NEIGHBORHOOD
As for the residential district and portion of Bay Park, it bumps up to Clairemont at its eastern border. And did you know that these neighborhoods have been homes to some of the most famous people? That’s right, Mark Hamill, or more famously remembered as Luke Skywalker lived in the neighborhood and even attended James Madison Highschool before moving back to Virginia. Also, more currently, Kris Jenner, Clairemont Highschool alum class of ‘74 spent most of her childhood near and around Bay Park, who’d of known?!
