"I am standing up for this [so] I can tell my grandchildren that I made a stand for THEIR medical freedom."

TRANSCRIPT
I'm a registered nurse with over 25 years NHS experience. I currently work in primary care and part of my role is to give immunisations. I've never given a COVID one, but I have given childhood immunisations and travel immunisations. I've always respected either a parent's or a person's right to decline any vaccination if they feel that it's not right for them. I've always encouraged people to do their own research on vaccination and have been open with any questions they've asked me. I'm a little confused that if this mandate goes through from the 1st of April, I will not be fit to practice, because I decline the COVID jab.

I've worked throughout the pandemic I don't even ask people if they've been vaccinated or not. That's not relevant to me. I see people because they come to me for a reason and for certain treatments or procedures and I'm happy to carry out those procedures regardless of their vaccination status, regardless if they're wearing masks. They've come to me and I'm there to do my job for that person. I don't quite understand why I'm being asked to have a vaccine that neither stops the spread of a disease, it doesn't stop transmission. It may only reduce symptoms in me.

Yet from April I will be considered a threat to the patients I see. If I am such a threat, why have I not been redeployed, why have I not been on gardening leave, why am I not a threat to anybody until this mandate goes through. I truly believe in a person's right to choose. I truly believe in medical freedom and the reason I am standing up for this is because I can tell my grandchildren that I made a stand for their medical freedom, because if this mandate goes through, it will affect everybody, not just NHS staff. This will affect the whole population. So this is my stand. This is where I hold the line and I hope anybody listening to this can understand that decision. Thank you for listening.
