The Sicilian volcano Etna - the largest active volcano in Europe - ejected a column of ash. The ash cloud has reached a height of 9 km and is dissipating in the east and north-east directions.
Volcanologists have also reported a lava fountain. The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology has issued a red flight warning, but so far the ash release has not affected the operation of the international airport in Catania.
The activity of the volcano lasts more than seven months and affects farms, often causing irreparable damage to the crop.
Mount Etna is under the constant supervision of specialists. As a rule, its activity does not pose a danger to the population.
