Rocket science: NASA's current rockets and space shuttles aren't capable of surpassing low-Earth orbit to reach moon with amount of gear required for manned expedition.

Apollo sent 12 men 240,000 miles to the Moon and back, yet after the last mission in 1972, no other human being has ever travelled more than 400 miles above the surface of the Earth.

NASA today admits it can’t go back to the Moon, citing the lethal effects of radiation.

But if NASA could do it in 8 years between President JFK?s 1961 speech that led to the historic first lunar landing of Apollo 11 in 1969, some wonder why it is so difficult to go back.

By 2020, 16 years will have passed since NASA launched its new moon-bound vision in 2004.

"The amount of rocket energy it takes to accelerate those kinds of payloads away from Earth doesn't exist anymore," said Jeff Hanley, NASA's Constellation program manager. "It exited in the Apollo era with Saturn V. Since that time this nation has retired that capability."

NASA never tried to clear Van Allen belt with a nuclear bomb, but an Atomic Energy Commission test in 1962 briefly made radiation problem much worse. America’s nuclear testing program of the early 1960s was called Operation Dominic. Within this program was a group of atmospheric tests called Fishbowl events designed to understand how nuclear weapon debris would interact with Earth’s magnetic field - Rather than clear out the inner Van Allen belt, Starfish Prime added more radiation around the planet.

It is embroidered with the words “The Supreme Council, 33°, Southern Jurisdiction, USA” and the motto “Deus Meumque Jus.” It is also decorated with the double-headed eagle, the crown of the Thirty-third Degree, the insignia of the Sovereign Grand Commander, and the insignia of a Master Mason.

Nazi Operation Paperclip In 1969, NASA used the Saturn V rocket to launch the Apollo 11 spacecraft on mission to the moon. That same year, von Braun received the NASA Distinguished Service Medal, as did three other former Nazi rocket scientists recruited through Operation Paperclip.

The camera used a non-standard scan format that commercial television could not broadcast.

NASA used a scan converter to optically and electronically adapt these images to a standard U.S. broadcast TV signal. The tracking stations converted the signals and transmitted them using microwave links, Intelsat communications satellites, and AT&T analog landlines to Mission Control in Houston. By the time the images appeared on international television, they were substantially degraded.

At tracking stations in Australia and the United States, engineers recorded data beamed to Earth from the lunar module onto one-inch telemetry tapes. The tapes were recorded as a backup if the live transmission failed or if the Apollo Project needed the data later. Each tape contained 14 tracks of data, including bio-medical, voice, and other information; one channel was reserved for video.

A three-year search for these original telemetry tapes was unsuccessful. A final report on the investigation is expected to be completed in the near future and will be publicly released at that time.

Indeed during a live ITV broadcast on the night of the landing, famous British TV historian AJP Taylor questioned the veracity of what he was seeing.

Talk that the landings were faked arose immediately, but it wasn’t until Bill Kaysing, a senior technical writer for a NASA contractor, published his book ‘We Never Went to the Moon’ in the 1970s that the hoax theory really took hold.

In May 1968, Neil Armstrong was almost killed during failed testing of the Lunar lander. If NASA were unable to successfully land the craft on Earth during testing, what chance did they have to do it on the Moon?

Improbably, just over a year later, everything came together perfectly and on their very first attempt they successfully landed on the Moon without a hitch.

The prime reason for the Aulis investigation into Apollo is to question the official record of the
exploration of the Moon in the late 1960s and early '70s – especially the Apollo lunar landings themselves.

The findings regarding the discovery of anomalies and inconsistencies in the Apollo record strongly
indicate that the manner in which the 1969-75 program actually played out is most certainly not a conspiracy theory – but rather the program was a very successful operation fully authorised by the United States.

As a government agency NASA acts in the interest of the national security of the United States, and
when viewed though the lens of ‘National Security’ any action always contains a military component.
The US manned space program, up to and including Apollo, was a weapon of choice in the ‘technological cold war’ the United States government was pursuing with the USSR. Consequently the historical record of these programs, as supplied by NASA itself, was a component of this ‘war’ and US government policy.

Human space flight is still besieged with problems supposedly resolved by 1969 and in the decades since Apollo, NASA’s published photographic and written documentation has failed to stand up to the scrutiny of today’s investigative technology. These are strong indications that US policy of the 1960s was simply the means to an end.
