FLORA-BAMA POLAR BEAR DIP: Bringing in 2022 with a Jump into the Gulf of Mexico!

Every year Flora-Bama puts on the Polar Bear Dip where people dive into the Gulf of Mexico at high noon on January 1. Since we were in the area this year we decided to take part in the dip. Fortunately for us the weather was nice and not so "polar."

With air temperatures in the 70s and water temperatures in the 60s the crowds came out. People were dressed in everything from skimpy bathing suits to full costumes ready to jump into the water at exactly 12:00 pm. Everyone who fully submerged got lunch on the house.

I waited, not looking forward to the dive, while the kids played in the ocean and the waves. Noon came and the crowds were off!

I have to admit the dive wasn't that bad once I actually got in and the food was definitely worth it. This is an event I'd highly recommend everyone take part in at least once if you're in the area.
