The 430 Years Part 3 - Ezekiel Study
The Book of Ezekiel, even though it applies within the context of ancient Israel in 593 BC, has an important parallel with our future because God is always consistent. In the last segment, I pointed out how God's sword, famine, plague, and wild beasts are his punitive judgments for apostasy and rebellion.
The fourth seal of Revelation chapter 6, consists of sword, famine, plague, and wild beasts; and when it commences, a fourth of the earth will be destroyed by the Lord. The Lord is the one who initiates these things! These are his judgments. In Revelation 7 we read how the four angels are holding back the four winds, and presently, the four angels are holding back theses judgments of sword, famine, plague, and wild beasts; but at the time it becomes appropriate, the sensor will come down and the trumpets will begin.
When the hammer falls, 1.5 billion people will die as a result of these judgments. This will happen right away; and then in the sixth trumpet another third of the human race will be destroyed. I'll tell you, the cataclysmic events that are before us are very difficult to even conceptualize because most people don't read the Bible to understand.
They want to pick out a Psalm or something to emphasize the Lord is good, the Lord is gracious, the Lord is merciful. Yes, the Lord is all those things, but the Lord is a terror to those that are in rebellion. The Lord is death to those who stand in his way. The Lord is overwhelming destruction to those who persist on a rebellious course.
Today we have a caricature of God just like Israel of old. Israel made up what they wanted God to be; and they worshiped a deity that didn't even exist, in the temple of the God who did exist; and he says throughout the book of Ezekiel, when I've done these things, then they will know that I am the lord!
See, this is the problem today. People say, your God is not my God. Well, I’ll just say, I want my God to be the God of the Bible. I want my God to be clearly understood from his actions over the past thousands of years. And when I look at the flood, when I look at Sodom and Gomorrah, and at Jerusalem, I don't have any doubts in my mind about what God is capable of doing. I know a lot of people reject that and believe that God never does anything that even comes close to destruction, but that line of thinking is not scriptural; that's not the God of heaven; that's not the God of the Bible; and incidentally, if you think the God of the Old Testament is worse than the God of the New Testament – in terms of his eagerness and his destructive powers – then you haven't read the book of Revelation.
