Video game journalism is a term that many would consider relatively harmless, but that isn't always the case. Games journalism is often just puff pieces or a broader way for fans of games to interact with said games. From the old games journalist magazines that covered hidden story elements and secrets to the modern political takes about how playing Call of Duty is a gateway to the Alt Right, there are many different types of games journalism and even different types of people who engage in its creation. The last decade as seen a push towards video game journalism becoming political and focusing on anything other than the games they are supposed to be talking about. Many of these "journalists" aren't true journalists at all. They write every piece as an opinion, ignoring any objective facts to reach the story that the "journalist" wants to tell, instead of informing the gaming communities on what they care about. As views have gone down, these outlets have gravitated towards more outrageous titles and concepts to drive outrage clicks and angry engagement. In the words of the great Admiral Ackbar, before he was murdered by Rian Johnson, "It's a trap." #videogames #gaming #kotaku
