The brutal murder of Dr. Teresa Sievers, which has gripped Southwest Florida since it happened in June of 2015, is in the national spotlight once again.
Sievers was bludgeoned to death in her Bonita Springs home on June 28, 2015. When she didn't show up for work the next day, her body was discovered facedown on her kitchen floor. Police determined someone had struck her in the head with a hammer, which crushed her skull.
Acting on a tip, police arrested two Missouri men, Curtis Wayne Wright Jr. and Jimmy Ray Rodgers, in August, 2015 and eventually charged them with killing Sievers. In December, 2015, Mark Sievers was arrested and accused of orchestrating her killing.

Wright pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in February 2016 in exchange for a 25-year sentence, with the promise of helping prosecutors convict his childhood friend Mark Sievers.

While in Missouri for Wright's wedding in 2015, Mark Sievers told Wright that he was having problems with his wife. He said that his wife was going to take his daughters away from him and he couldn't afford to fight for custody, Wright said.

Wright testified that Mark Sievers told him that the only option that he had was for his wife to die.
