God has a rule that he uses to apply justice, because human beings have within themselves the power of choice and the ability to hurt or to harm others. We read about it all the time, every day in the newspaper. Somebody kills innocent people, or somebody loads a vehicle with explosives and kills fifty people at a shopping center. People have the ability to harm one another, and I want to try to show you that God has means of dealing with this kind of behavior. Although justice may not occur in the timely form that you and I might want, I assure you that justice will be served. God will repay.

In the Old Testament, God outlines a same-same rule...notice what God said to Moses “Now suppose two men are fighting, and in the process they accidentally strike a pregnant woman so she gives birth prematurely. If no further injury results, the man who struck the woman must pay the amount of compensation the woman’s husband demands and the judges approve. But if there is further injury, the punishment must match the injury: a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, a foot for a foot, a burn for a burn, a wound for a wound, a bruise for a bruise.”

But wait, there's more to this. Notice how the same-same rule applies in this situation. The same is done as was done or was INTENDED to be done! That’s what I want you to see in this selection from Deuteronomy 19, “If a malicious witness comes forward and accuses someone of a crime, then both the accuser and accused must appear before the Lord by coming to the priests and judges in office at that time. The judges must investigate the case thoroughly. If the accuser has brought false charges against his fellow Israelite, you must impose on the accuser the sentence he intended for the other person. In this way, you will purge such evil from among you. Then the rest of the people will hear about it and be afraid to do such an evil thing. You must show no pity for the guilty! Your rule should be life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.”
