My name is Ahmad Malik and I'm a consultant orthopedic surgeon. I'm not talking to you just as a doctor, but also as a father and concerned citizen. Consent is a basic human right and it's a legal duty to obtain informed consent when entertaining any form of medical intervention. Any controls imposed by others, lack of information, coercion, duress, threat of loss of your job, makes consent null and void.

Over a career spanning 23 years, I've treated thousands of patients and I've always given patients the choice of no treatment and I have to respect that decision. For consent to hold true in the court of law, it must be voluntary. For all of these reasons, I have an issue with the UK government's decisions to mandate vaccinations on all health care workers.

The government states that it isn't mandating these vaccines, that it's just a condition for deployment. This is just double speak and playing with works. The final outcome is the same: If you do no have a jab, you do not have a job. Mandatory vaccinations set a very dangerous precedent. Never before have governments decided what is put inside a patient and what treatment they will have. If I choose not to have the second vaccination for personal reasons, I will effectively lose my job. If this isn't duress and coercion, I don't know. And this doesn't just apply to me, but thousands of other health care workers.

What makes this government decision even more strange and irrational is the fact that we know with the latest omicron variant, which is much milder than the previous forms of the COVID virus, that vaccines are not as effective, and any immunity and any efficacy is literally a matter of weeks.

The Pandora's box is opened. Who will it apply to next? And if today it's the COVID vaccines, what will we be forced to take tomorrow? If I accept mandatory vaccinations for myself an my fellow health care workers, I have to accept this principle moving forward for all my patients, my friends, my family, my children. This goes against everything that I was taught as a doctor and believe in. Please share this video and contact your MP and ask them to please overturn this decision.
